Anyanacho Makes History as the Second Female Nigerian Taekwondo Practitioner at the Olympics

In a historic turn of events, 20-year-old Elizabeth Anayanacho, a student of the Federal University of Technology, Nigeria defeated five-time Taekwondo continental medalist, Urgence Mouega of Gabon (12 – 5) to emerge as winner of the African qualification tournament at the African Qualifiers on Saturday in Rabat Morocco.

Anayanacho will now be representing Nigeria at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the Taekwondo event.

This makes her the second-ever Nigerian to represent the country in Taekwondo at the Olympics, since Athens 2004, after Princess Dudu qualified.

According to reports, Nigeria’s male representative, Benjamin Okuomose, failed to clinch the Olympic ticket after losing 17 – 19 to former Olympic Silver medalist, Anthony Obame of Gabon.

We are optimistic about this young female athlete's performance as she prepares for Tokyo.
